How to wear a leather skater skirt

20131129-134839.jpg

This season leather is just as popular as it was last year, making it a great choice for holiday parties, nights out, or a casual weekend outfit. Leather is great because it is extremely versatile and can be dressed up or down. A few weeks ago we talked about styling a leather pencil skirt, so for this week we wanted to show how to dress up or down a leather skater skirt. We already showed how to wear a skater skirt and dress, but styling a leather skater skirt can be a bit tricky. Keep reading to see how to style a skater skirt during the day or night.

Leather skirts are often thought of as a nighttime option, but these style skirts are versatile enough to be worn during the day as well. The trick to making this skirt daytime friendly is pairing it with more relaxed pieces. For this look I choose to wear a simple oxblood sweater and tights. I added a flannel skirt around the waist for a little "edge" (not to mention strong gust of wind protection).

Since a leather skater skirt is a statement piece on it's own, you want to make sure it's allowed to be the focal point of the outfit. For a nighttime look, you can be more daring with your choice of accessories and pairings, but should still allow the skirt to take the attention. For this look I choose to pair the leather skater skirt with a creme and black chiffon color blocked top. The top dresses up the outfit because of the fabric and color palette but doesn't distract away from the skirt.

And there you have it! Two simple ways to wear a leather skater skirt dressed up or down. In addition to the two looks above, I also love to pair my skater skirt with a chambray/denim skirt for a look that can be for day or night. You can see me wearing this look on my instagram here.

Comment below and let us know your tips for dressing up or dressing down a skirt. Do you own a leather skater skirt? How do you like to wear yours?
xoxo,
