What to wear for NYE 2012

NYE 2012

It's hard to believe that 2012 is already over, seems like just yesterday we we're watching the ball drop for 2012 and freaking out about the end of the Mayan calendar.

For me New Years is always a time for me to reflect on the year that had just passed and to create goals and prayers for the upcoming year. Looking back, 2012 has been a very eventful year for me, everything from graduating college, moving to New York City, and restarting Fancy Francy has been a new and exciting experience that I'm really grateful to have had.

Whatever your plans are for the NYE 2012, today is the perfect day to bring on the sparkle. Celebrate the New Year in style with a little help from today's outfit inspiration and end 2012 shining bright like a diamond!

Francy Answers: What to wear with seafoam green pumps

Seafoam green pumps

Recently reader Amanda wrote in " what you would wear with seafoam green pumps?" I personally love seafoam green and although I don't own a pair, I do own other accessories in this color. The trick to wearing seafoam green is making sure that the rest of your outfit is slightly more subdue. I personally like pairing it with black, tan, and blue. In particular, cobalt blue is a rich color that compliments this light green beautifully. With those tips in mind I put together two looks to serve as inspiration.

Must Have Monday

Rare Sequin Collar And Cuffs Shift Dress

Originally I planned on talking about my recent obsession with sequin in general for today's "Must Have Monday" however I stumbled upon this little gem dress decided it was too special to share the spotlight and deserved its own dedicated post. It's called the "Rare Sequin Collar And Cuffs Shift Dress" dress and it's from Asos.com.  I really love this dress because it combines my love for chiffon and sequins and rolls it all into one big happy ball of pretty. I could so see myself rocking this on my birthday or for a fun New Year's party in the city, there's just one problem... the price. The dress cost $127 and although that's not crazy expensive, it's expensive enough that I can't justify to myself spending that amount on a dress I'm probably only going to wear once. I would love to splurge and treat myself to this dress but since I've already "treated" myself several times since payday I think I'm going to just admire this love from afar (but if it goes on sale, all bets are off).

Comment below and let me know what you think of this dress, do you love it, would you spend $127 for it? Don't forget to let me know what's on your must have list this week?!

xoxo,

Irish Creme

Photos taken by Andrew

December is finally here and that means spending time with friends and family during the holiday season. This is definitely my favorite time of year and I've already started getting in the holiday spirit by picking out decorations to hang inside my apartment. If you follow me on twitter than you know I've already attended my first of several holiday parties this season. With all the holiday parties coming up, I've already started mentally planning outfits ( look out for a few look books on the blog soon). Aside from wearing traditional colors such as red and green, I also love dressing for the season wearing white, cream, and metallics. Recently I got in the holiday spirit wearing my new favorite cream colored sweater and leather leggings.

Comment below and let me know what are your holiday season wardrobe stables? What do you wear to show your holiday spirit?

Francy Answers: How Do I Style This Edition

Untitled #134

Clothes shopping is a lot like grocery shopping, sometimes we 're in the store shopping and we pick up items only to come home and realize we have great "ingredients" but none that can be paired together. Recently a reader had this very same issue and wrote in:
I need help piecing this outfit together. I ordered these shoes http://www.gojane.com/77836-shoes-skull-spiked-booties.html in the badge/taupe color And this merlot/dark red bandeau top http://www.gojane.com/79246-tops-chiffon-bow-bandeau.html. I am not sure if it matches or what pants I should wear?

What's Trending Now: Beanies

Beanie Hat Trend

Another one of our old favs from the 90's is back, and although it shares it's name with the ultimate icon of the 90's the beanie baby, this trend actually has a purpose. The "beanie" hats are back (right in time for winter I might add) and have been given quite a facelift. No longer are they just for the men in your life trying to keep warm, now they come in fun and different colors and shapes, all of which are perfect to give your outfit that last finishing touch this winter.

Comment below and let me know what you think of this trend, will you be rocking it or leaving this one for the boys?

Tis the Season to Be Glossy {November GlossyBox Review}

I am definitely the definition of a "beauty product junkie". I can spend hours perusing the makeup aisles and probably spend days "getting lost" in beauty supply stores. With that being said I was thrilled when I woke up this past week to find that my first month's GlossyBox had arrived. The theme of the November box was "Tis the Season to be Glossy" which I thought was perfect to kick off the start of the holiday party season. From what I could tell from other G reviews that I read online, there were several versions of this box sent out, all with different fun products to try! Keep reading to see what items I received and my initial thoughts on these products!

How I Style Tights in the Winter

Dressing for winter is like a double edge sword, twice as useful but also twice as many chances for mistakes. On the one hand you have soo many more cute cold weather accessories you can mix and play with, but on the other hand it can be a challenge trying to figure out how to layer, add, and subtract pieces all the while remaining stylish. This tricky equation gets all the more complicated if you're not actually prepared for winter and have none of the a fore mentioned cute winter accessories. I admittedly was so NOT prepared for this winter. Being a southern girl true and true, this is my first real winter I've ever experienced in my 20 something years (apparently we're still in "Fall weather" and haven't even hit Winter in NYC yet). Despite it being officially ridiculously cold outside I've been in denial, hoping that maybe if I pretend it's not cold, I won't actually be cold). Needless to say, after basically freezing my butt off for the past few weeks I've been forced to admit defeat.

Luckily, I was recently given the opportunity to try out the No nonsense brand of tights and leggings. I received a pair of denim leggings and a pair of patterned black tights. For the first outfit I wore, I layered a basic long sleeve shirt under a bright chiffon button down shirt. I added a blazer for extra warmth and paired it with the denim leggings and knee-high boots. I loved the fact that everyone thought they were actual jeans, but I had the comfort of wearing leggings! In the second outfit I choose to amp up the warmth factor of a sweater dress by pairing it with patterned tights and another bright blazer.

What's Trending Now: Cropped Turtlenecks {Look for Less Edition}

What"s Trending Now: Look for Less Edition

Save Item: ASOS $14 / Splurge Item: American Apparel $30

Sleeveless turtlenecks in the 90's were like the shoulder pads of the 80's, everyone was doing it and no one was quite sure why. Are you trying to keep from catching a cold or are you trying to hide a hickey from your parents a la Full House? What ever the case apparently the 90's are back... and I'm loving it! All jokes aside I love this trend and can't wait till mine arrives in the mail. I bought a regular plain old sheer turtle neck from Express last year to wear to work in the winter and to my surprise, I ended up wearing it more than I anticipated. Since the summer I've been on the hunt for a cropped sleeveless variety but couldn't find one anywhere until I finally tracked one down at American Apparel. I liked the look of it but not the price so I held off on buying it. Naturally, I was super pumped when I stumbled upon this one at ASOS yesterday during their Cyber Monday Sale, for less than half the price of the American Apparel one.

Need more convincing? Still not sure about this trend? Check out some of these stylish celebs rocking the trend!

What's Trending Now: Vampy Lipsticks

It's not enough that we read the whole Twlight series and had to be first in line at the Breaking dawn movie premiere, now we want to look like them too?? Vampires haven't had such a good few years since.. actually since never.

But on a more serious note (since we all know fashion and beauty is just about as serious as it gets) the vampy lipstick trend is huge right now, just in time for the Autumn/ Winter season.

Like this trend? Shop the look below to get your "vamp on'. Also be sure to comment below and let me know if you plan to rock this trend or not!

Must Have Monday: Leather Panel Leggings

Trying to find the perfect fitting pair of leather pants is like trying to find the illegibly written toy at the top of a kid's Christmas list ... the salesperson swears she knows what you're trying to describe and that it definitely DOES exist, but neither of you seemed to have ever actually seen one (at least not in real life). I love my leather panel leggings because they give the same basic look as leather pants but without the terrible awkward random bunching and overall ill fit on me. I purchased mine a year or two ago and since then it has been almost impossible to find another pair like them that have realistic vegan leather (you know, not that shinny plasticy looking crap). I had all but given up hope of ever finding a suitable replacement for my ripping at the seams leather leggings until this past weekend. Fellow blog friend Nicole showed up to an event wearing pants almost identical to mine. Instead of being enraged and "accidently spilling a cocktail on them" as I usually would do in a situation like this, I was literally ecstatic to find a leggings "twinsy". The best part... she had just gotten her pants that week and so they were still in stock!!! I guess some fashion nightmares have happy endings after all.

In love with this look too or currently craving something else? Comment below and let me know what’s on your “Monday must have list”!

WIWW: Breaking all My Norms

No one ever believes me when I tell them how quickly I get dressed for work in the morning. Although I'm a blogger and love all things pretty and wearable, I also enjoy my sleep and just like everyone else, I don't have time to spend countless hours each morning determining what to wear. My secret? Nearly ALL of my wardrobe is made up of neutrals. Okay so maybe that wasn't a ground breaking secret BUT it gets better. Since most of my clothes are neutrals  anything I "throw on" basically works. Once I discovered this little "color uniform" I became obsessed with navy, black, and browns (boring I know).

In an attempt to break myself out of my style norms, I purchased a pair of the red polka dot Rockstar jeans from Oldnavy when they first came out. I simply couldn't resist the polka dots and gave myself TWO pats on the back for putting down the navy color option and going for these instead.

What's Trending Now: Quilted Bags

What's Trending Now: Quilted Bags

I'm in love with the quilted bag trend and have been for some time now. The first one I added to my arsenal is this quilted tote shopper bag from ASOS in cream which has quickly turned into my favorite everyday bag.

Must Have Monday

An item that you spot and instantly fall in love with is like having a song stuck in your head. As hard as you try, you can't get it out of your mind! Last week I spotted a woman on the street wearing a coat very similar to this. I instantly thought fell in love with it but with no way of knowing where she got it from (she was too far away to approach and ask) I tried to forget about it and go on with my day. Naturally, the next day I spot ANOTHER woman wearing a similar style cardigan/coat while I was at church. Typically spotting two people wearing something before I purchase it would make me probably want it less, but this cardigan/coat seemed like the perfect weekend throw on to combat the already cold weather we're having here in New York.

For the past week I've been frantically searching to find a similar (and affordable) option to this black and white geo patterned oversize cardigan. So far I've managed to find these three options:

The first one is a  Staring at Stars Reversible Knit Cardie from UO which actually probably looks the closest to the original one I spotted on the street. The second one is another Staring at Stars brand Knit Cardie from UO which is slightly less expensive since it's not reversible, and I actually like the pattern more on but wish that the overall color was white with black designs instead of the other way around. Last but not least I found a third option, a Blanket wrap Cardie from ASOS, that looks ridiculously comfy and warm!

In love with this look too or currently craving something else? Comment below and let me know what's on your "Monday must have list"!

xoxo,

Wardrobe Inspiration + WIWW: Leather Pleated Skirt Edition

As you know from the post I did yesterday (and if you follow me on Snapette and see the ridiculous amount of leather goodies I've snapped pictures of) I'm beyond in love with the leather trend that's happening this season. So naturally I've been scooping up affordable vegan leather pieces ( I even scored a vintage leather skirt and backpack when I went thrifting a few weeks ago). One of my first purchases was a black pleated vegan leather skirt from H&M.

What's Trending Now: Black Pleated Leather Skirts

What's Trending Now: Black Leather Pleated Skirts

A black pleated skirt is like a school girl gone bad. No one expected it, no one knows exactly when it happened, and although we might not admit it... we all secretly want to do it too.

With that being said its no surprise that amidst the leather (and vegan leather) trend this season, the pleated leather skirt in particular has been making quite the number of cameos (everyone from Urban to Bergdorf is carrying a version of the look in their stores!) Brands such as Marc by Marc Jacobs, Forever 21, and Free People have all taken a stab at creating their own version of this piece, making it a trend that's accessible to all wallet sizes :)

Want to try this trend? Shop the look below and be sure to check out tomorrows post where I show how to rock the look! Comment below and let me know if you have this trend or plan to get one !

Francy Answers: What to Wear to a Pop/Rock Concert

It's been a few weeks since I answered my last Francy Answers but now that I've made it easier to send in questions expect to see a lot more being featured on the site! Recently a reader wrote in:

Hi Francy,
So I am planning on going to a pop/alternative rock concert (The Script). I have NEVER been to any type of concert like that and I am at a loss for what to wear. Please help!

Sincerely,
The closest thing I have to rock is a pair of black leather combat boots :-)

Dear Reader,

The good news is combat boots are a great place to start! If you've been reading my blog for a little while you know that they are one of my favorite boots this season (check out how I styled them here). Going to a concert is always fun, and you want to make sure your outfit reflects the mood of the evening while still remaining comfortable, cute, and weather appropriate  (depending on if the concert is indoors or outdoors). Check out the options I put together below and hopefully find the perfect outfit for your fun day coming up!

Out and About: Forever 21 Editor's List Launch Party

Recently, BHS (before hurricane Sandy) that is, I attended a launch party Forever 21 hosted in their Time Square Store celebrating the launch of their "Editors' List Collection."  The Editors' list is a new collection created in collaboration with Conde Nast glossies: Glamour, W, Teen Vogue, and Details. According to Glamour.com, "the collaboration is running for 3 months in 480 stores across the country, and in each store there will be a special section with items (hand-picked by the editors)." During the duration of the collaboration  Forever 21 is also stocking subscription gift cards for the participating glossies in their store. The event included refreshments courtesy of Sigmund's Pretzels, as well as a photo booth and a braiding bar.

During the event we also got the opportunity to shop the new collection with picks from Teen Vogue, Glamour, W, and Details. Check out my favorite picks from the new collection below!

Also if you haven't already be sure to check out my pinterest board featuring more of my favorites from the collection as well!

Wardrobe Inspiration: Let Your Inner Animal Go Wild

GUESS, Giambattista Valli, Adrienne Landau

ShopStyle

It's no secret I love animal print (my junior year in college every square inch of my room was basically covered in leopard print) and if you've been a reader of Fancy Francy for a while you probably remember my summer post about it.

This fall, adding some sass to your style has never been easier. Animal prints are back on the runways and fortunately, it's easy to walk on the wild side. If you want to bring out your inner animal this autumn, keep reading to follow these tips provided in today's guest post by Anya Sarre.
