What to wear to Made in America Music Festival

Missed Coachella and Governor's Ball again this year? Or just had so much fun you can't wait till next summer to do it again? Whichever scenario you fall into, Jayz knows your pain, and created a solution. Made in America, an annual two day music festival in Philadelphia featuring music heavy hitters from every genre. Like every other music festival, it's 50% about who's performing and 50% about what everyone's wearing. With the stakes this high, now is not the time to "wing it". Check out these inspiration guides and tips to make sure your look is festival approved.

Francy Answers: How to Get the Lilac Lipstick Look

Beautysets - 3 Perfect Lilac Lipstick Shades

Dear Francy,

I love the lipstick shade the model is wearing in this picture, do you know how I can get the same look?

Thanks,

--H

Lilac and lavender lipsticks are a great alternative to the classic red lip. Lilac lipsticks are very flattering on a multitude of skin tones and look great when paired with a neutral or bold eye shadow. Below are several lipstick shades that will give you the same look and tips on how to wear it.

Motivational Monday: Life Lessons from Steve Jobs

20130819-104059.jpg

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.
Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.

They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Francy Answers: How to apply stick foundation

Beautysets - How to apply stick foundation

Dear Francy,

Not sure if you have any experience with this but I recently heard about stick foundation and I'm interested in trying it but I have no clue how to wear it. Have you worn it before and if so how? Thanks for your help!

Stick foundation may not be as common as liquid and powder, but it has actually been around for quite some time. Stick foundation is basically cream foundation in a stick applicator. Like other cream foundation formulas, stick foundation can provide medium to full coverage, depending on application amount.

Stick foundations give concentrated strokes of foundation when applied, so it's best to use a sponge applicator over other brushes to evenly distribute the foundation all over your face.

Recently I tried the Maybelline Oil Free Foundation stick (look out for a review on this foundation) and created a tutorial on how I applied it. Below are step by step instructions on how I apply my stick foundation and the products that I used.

How to style a shift dress

Summer day parties are amongst some of my favourite past times. There’s something quite perfect about sipping on cocktails watching the sun set as you dance along to summer tunes. Although I adore day parties, finding the right assemble can be somewhat tricky. Recently I've taken to wearing shift dresses as they provide just the right amount of style and sophistication, and work brilliantly from Summer into Autumn.

Look 1:
Dress up a rather simple shift dress by pairing it with a hat. Hats are a great way to add flare and fun to a look, while helping you fight off the wind while you're at it! I love this gorgeous Topshop number because it's long enough to "protect my dignity", and just loose enough that I don't have to worry if I eat too much!

Look 2:
Hat's not your thing? Try popping on a "floral reef" like the blue flower crown I put on to finish this second look and add a touch of femininity! This look is a shift dress I got from Urban Outfitters after I fell in love with the loose fitting style and blue marble pattern. Since this dress is more decorative than the first, I decided to try a more demure hair accessorize.

And there you have it! Two awesome ways to accessorize a lovely shift dress this summer into fall!

Comment below and let me know if you own any shift dresses? How do you like to style your shift dresses?

xoxo,

Sophie

Francy Answers: What to wear to a Fall / End of Summer Wedding

Dear Francy,

I came across your blog and had a question for you! I am attending a fall/end of summer wedding next weekend! Do you have any ideas on what to wear? I have too many unsure ideas floating around in my head. Thanks in advance

--C

What to wear to a fall wedding: midi dress

For a fall/end of summer wedding, a midi dress is definitely your best bet. It allows you to still wear a cocktail style dress with a few extra inches of critical additional length, which will be much needed once the temperatures start to dip. As with a Spring wedding, you want to try and find a dress that will be figure flattering and sultry, but not slutty.

What to wear to a fall wedding: skater dress

If midi dresses aren't your thing, you could also opt for a skater style dress paired with a chic jacket or blazer. Skater style dresses are a great pick for weddings because they are ultra feminine, but still comfortable. Look for an option that is chic and slightly more sophisticated than a regular day dress.

How to Get Dressed Faster: 3 categories all your clothes should fall into

20130807-120412.jpg

Closet organization isn't a new topic by any means. "Type A's" like me have been color coding and using folding boards for years, but how effective actually are these techniques? If we're honest with ourselves, seldom do we actually go into our closet saying "I want to wear red today!" (or any other color for that matter.) Getting dressed is largely a situational based task. What we decide to wear is based on where we are going!

After coming to this realization I decide to try and capitalize on this "discovery" by brainstorm ways in which to improve my closet organization. I knew that organizing my closet in a new and more efficient way could dramatically decrease my time getting ready in the morning and help me to finally get places on time. I thought about my typical week and created a "system" centralized around 3 "categories" of situations: work, weekend, and weddings.

How to Shop at an Outlet Mall

20130805-130631.jpg

Outlet mall shopping can be a fun way to do back to school shopping or just pass away a summer day. For many "fancy frugals" they seem to gleam like an oasis of designer savings in the desert. It’s a day of promised savings, rewarding the dedicated shopper who will find a trove of off-price goods that were sold at luxury retailers—perhaps last season, but who’s counting?

Although this is occasionally still true, over the last few decades, as retailers recognized the profitability of attracting Americans looking for a deal (yes—they will use this great quality about you against you!), they began to build an industry around outlet shopping that is completely separate from their regular business.

That doesn't mean outlet malls are all bad, it just means you need to be a more informed shopper.

With that in mind, here are some tips from Learnvest to help you make the most of your next outlet mall trip:
