Fashion and Technology: Snapette

20120928-085229.jpg

How often do you see someone wearing an item and you instantly have got to have it? Or worse your shopping in an area like Soho or Williamsburg and know there are a ton of great finds, you just don't know where to find them. Enter Snapette; a mobile phone app that is a curation of user and brand/retailer submitted images of clothing items. Snapette users are able to take a picture of an item they see or purchased and tag where exactly the piece is from, how much it cost, and other helpful tidbits about the item.

This app is great for those of us who like to shop alone but want to share the experience with our friends! Personally I'm really getting into this app and I'm enjoying snapping away at cute items while I'm shopping!

Comment below and let me know if you plan to try out this new app?! Also be sure to follow me Fancy Francy

Out and About: Yuna Yang Q&A at the Mandarin Hotel

Now that the madness of Fashion Week is over, and I've had time to settle back into my regularly scheduled life, I would like to introduce an addition to the Fancy Francy team!!! In an effort to have more content I have been trying to "beef up" the behind the scenes Fancy Francy team and now I am excited to announce my first regularly reoccurring guest writer, Anne!! Anne is my sister and by default my in-house "photog". In addition to taking pictures for Fancy Francy she is also a talented writer and will be a contributing editor on Fancy Francy. During fashion week Anne attended a number of events I was unable to attend and got to get up close and personal with a number of designers, including Yuna Yang. She's excited to finally have a chance to give you all a rundown and details on a few events! First up, the Yuna Yang Q&A at the Mandarin Hotel!

So how often do you get a chance to talk to an actual fashion designer who is showing at New York Fashion Week, in a posh environment with other fashion loving attendees? If you're me then never, so needless to say I was beyond excited when Francy asked me to go in her place. As I said, the venue was very nice! The Mandarin Hotel in conjunction with HTC did a fabulous job of ensuring a quality environment for this event. They provided snacks and coffee (which was totally needed because I really was having that "2 o'clock feeling" by the time I got there), a place to charge your phone, and just an overall tranquil oasis in the midst of the craziness that was NYFW.

Ok now to the meat and potatoes of this event, I mean snacks and coffee are great but meeting Yuna Yang was awesome! If you don't know Yuna Yang's work, here are few of her pieces that she showed this season. (I'm obsessed with the blue lace dress!)

The initial interview was conducted by Jenny from Jenny by Design. The beginning of the interview focused on what inspires her work. She said that she is inspired by art in all of its forms; she described the process in which she developed her current collection, which was inspired by music from a rock band called Civil Twilight. She went on to describe how interesting it was to develop tangible art (the pieces for her collection)  from such an intangible artistic form like music.

Additionally, she discussed her background in fine arts. Prior to entering into the fashion world, she received a B.A. in Fine Arts, and upon moving to Milan, she became inspired by the style of the women in the city and shifted her artistic outlet to fashion. I spoke to her briefly after the interview, and she talked at little more about this aspect of her transition. She stated that she loved fashion because it was like creating fine works of art that people could actually live in. Luckily for us, she made the switch to fashion because her pieces are truly works of art!

Comment below and let me know what you think of the Yuna Yang S/S 13 collection?

4 Trends staying in style for Fall

4 trends staying in style this fall

1. The Satchel Bag: This bag is perfect to carry into Fall because it's carefree and adds instant style to any outfit. This bag is especially great for weekends in the city when your shopping or just going around town and need to be hands free.

2. Leather Loafers: I'm in love with loafers right now. Point blank period. You can opt for a more classic pair like the ones shown above or a fun printed one, either way you can't go wrong!

3. Colored Denim: Colored denim has been hot for a while, and appears to be going strong into the Fall. Replace some of your brighter jeans from spring and instead opt for cool weather colors such as navy, mustard, and ox blood. Want to add a fun twist to the colored jeans trend? Try colored cords! Corduroy is back this season and is a easy way to give your outfit a more polished look.

4. Ankle Boots: You already know from my earlier post on combat boots how much I am digging ankle boots this Fall. I've spotted lots of stylish ladies rocking ankle boots with dresses and shorts throughout the summer, and now that the weather is cooling down, I'm excited to wear mine as well!

Men's Fall Fashion Trends

What Will the Trendiest Men Be Wearing This Fall? Robert from Style Pilot let's us know the top trends for men in today's guest post.

You and your friends are headed into town for something to eat and a few drinks, and inevitably, fashion makes its way right into the conversation. Once you have discussed your own styles and where you have bought your latest breath-taking accessories and designer dress, you move onto judging observing, the many men who are also at the bar.

The debate quickly heats up around which guys look the most fashionable, so for the sake of settling an argument, we put together this quick look at what you can expect to see stylish men sporting this winter.

Bombing Away

You might think that the guy playing pool over there is wearing a jacket that makes him look like Justin Bieber, however the bomber is a very fashionable trendsetter that is set to become a style staple for men around the world in the latter part of 2012.

If you spot a guy wearing a leather variation, then you can rest assured that he knows his fashion extremely well and is usually always this immaculately turned out.

Francy Answer's: What to wear on your birthday

Dear Fancy Francy,

I need some serious fashion advice. My birthday is coming up at the end of this month and I have no idea what to wear!!! I'm thinking that I want to have a dinner at my apartment or go out to dinner with close friends and then go to the hookah bar after so I'm looking for something that isn't overly dressy, but super cute and stylish. I want to look chic. Any suggestions on dresses, nice blouses, accessories??? I'm a little cheap so hopefully something reasonably priced. I think I want a dress that's flowy and would go really well with black or light brown wedges. Maybe even a dress where it's short in the front and long in the back....seems like this is a trending style...not sure what those dresses are called. I don't want black because it's boring. What do you think of royal blue or purple? What type of material should I consider? Please help a clueless girl out!! Thanks.

Looking forward to your response!

Sincerely (a girl who's clueless about fashion),

Shayla

XOXO

First Happy Birthday in advance!! Although you call yourself "clueless about fashion", it sounds like you have some good ideas already on what to wear for your birthday.

I personally am a big fan of dresses. I love wearing dresses because they are super easy, you just have to throw them on and you're done! I started a tradition back in high school that every year I purchase a "birthday dress" ahead of time for my special day.

Since you want something a little more casual, I think a great option for you would be a drop hem/ mullet dress (that's those dresses that are short in the front and longer in the back) in a fun color like royal blue (which is a color that is really on trend right now). I'm obsessed with chiffon still (I think it's officially a problem now that I realize I don't really own any cotton shirts anymore) and I think that a nice flowy dress would be perfect for your birthday. I picked out a few options below, all of which I think would be great for the evening you described and would work with either the black or brown wedges, and are budget friendly!! As far as accessories go, depending on which dress you pick, I would probably opt for one nice statement piece (like a chunky necklace or statement ring), simple elegant earrings and chic clutch purse. (For examples of statement jewelry check out this post, and to see some example of clutches check out this post). Hope this helped!! Be sure to comment back on the post after your big day to let us know how it went!

Out and About: Benefits NYFW Party

So as many of you might know, fashion week has kicked off in NYC, and all can say is thank God I live here now! I personally didn't fully appreciate the awesome mayhem of fashion week until I experienced it firsthand. I thought I knew, but I had no idea! One of the big highlights of New York Fashion Week is definitely all of the events that stores and brands put on to showcase their products and interact with their customers. Why are these events so cool you might ask? Because you get to learn more about awesome brands (not to mention free swag and drinks!)

This past Wednesday, Benefit Cosmetics hosted a pre fashion Night Out event co-sponsored by Belvedere. The Benefit employees who were running the event were very nice and friendly. One of the women who work for Benefit was so kind and helpful while doing our make-up. In general, the atmosphere was friendly and attentive. They had something for everyone, including Belvedere mixed cocktails served by a couple of hotties, make-up artists doing touch-ups and full make-overs, free eyebrow arching (which unfortunately I had just gotten done the day before), and awesome swag bags!

Style in the news- Kim K

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Source: Celebrity-gossip.net[/caption]

Kim K was recently spotted out and about with beau Kanye (say what you will about their relationship but I actually think they are perfect for each other and naively hope they last). Kim opted for a simple chic look, pairing a white peplum top with a leather mini. Personally, I am in love with leather right now and adore this look on Kim. Comment below and let me know what you think of this look!
