Act like a Lady, Shop Like a Man: Advice on how to optimize shopping trips

With all the talk of thinking like men in order to understand the way they behave in relationships, it occurred to me that we can also learn a thing or two about shopping from the male's perspective.
In order to maximize each shopping trip, here are a few tips and tricks I've borrowed from the opposite sex.

1. Shop with a purpose: men are said to only shop when they have to, although we know this is just a stereotype (some men like to shop more than woman) there is still some truth to be learned from this. Shopping only when you have something specific in mind you want to buy helps to prevent you from shopping on a whim and picking up items you'll seldom wear. Whether you're shopping online or inside a physical "bricks and mortar" store, try having a few things in mind that you want to get. For example, if you recently read one of our trend reports and decided that you want to try out the overalls trend, you'll know to zero in on that next time you shop.
Editor's Note: Keeping a running list in your phone or planner of clothing you want to buy is a great way to keep track of everything.

2. Don't be afraid to buy multiples. It has been said that if a man finds something he likes, he will buy multiples of that item in different colors just so he won't have to be bothered with going shopping again soon. The same philosophy behind this joke can also be used to improve your shopping approach. For example, if you wear a size 11 shoe and have a difficult time finding shoes in your size, when you do come across shoes you really like, it actually makes sense to pick up multiples of that item. Even if sizing isn't an issue for you, fit or style might be. If you have a favorite pair of pants that you find yourself often reaching for, it makes sense to have at least a back up pair. It will save you time on the days you need something to wear and realize your "go to" pants are at the dry cleaners.

3. Stand Up for Yourself. Don't like the fit of the pants that comes with your suit blazer? Not thrilled by the lipstick/liner combo the makeup artist put on you? Don't allow yourself to be pressured into buying stuff you really don't like or want. Woman are said to be more accommodating then men, and although that is just a stereotype there is still some truth to it. Don't be afraid to push back if you are feeling pressured. It's your money and no one should ever "bully" you into spending it.

xoxo,

  3. I wish i could shop like my fiance. He barely goes shopping unless he really needs to ie new jeans or new clothes for work. I shop on a whim all the time or am able to come up with excuses to why I need to shop lol I do however need to cut back on the spending...*sigh*
