Francy Answers: How Do I Style This Edition

Untitled #134

Clothes shopping is a lot like grocery shopping, sometimes we 're in the store shopping and we pick up items only to come home and realize we have great "ingredients" but none that can be paired together. Recently a reader had this very same issue and wrote in:
I need help piecing this outfit together. I ordered these shoes http://www.gojane.com/77836-shoes-skull-spiked-booties.html in the badge/taupe color And this merlot/dark red bandeau top http://www.gojane.com/79246-tops-chiffon-bow-bandeau.html. I am not sure if it matches or what pants I should wear?

Personally, right now I have a hard time imagining myself wearing a bandeau top (since it's been a long time since it was warm in New York and an even longer time since I've been to the gym. Nonetheless, I'm sure your probably enjoying a much warmer climate (and flatter stomach) and should just remember to keep the following tips in mind:

- "Pick one or the other": If your going to show your midriff it's best to cover up a little more on your bottom half. I recommend pairing your bandeau top with a highrise pant such as this, or this.

- "Have a Back Up": If you've been reading my blog for a while you know that I've unfortunately been in situations where I totally misjudged what the dress code was going to be like and ended up either half naked at a formal dinner or dressed like a nun for a nightclub party. Both scenarios are just bad. As much as you might feel comfortable baring your midriff when you're getting dressed that day, sometimes things change. Plans change, the weather changes, and unexpected "food babies" do happen. Whatever the case, you might end up needing  to cover up or add a layer. I always suggest having a jacket or shirt stashed away that you can pull out if you decide you want (or need) to change your outfit.

As for the shoes, this part is a little similar. If you choose to pair the shoes with the top I would wear it with black high rise pants, a black leather jacket or denim jacket, and a colored beanie in a complementary neutral such as navy or cream.

Check out two outfits below that I put together incorporating these two tips!

Comment below and let me know what you think of the looks I put together! How would you wear these two items together?

  5. I don't think I'll ever work up the nerve to wear a top like this myself, but I love it on other people - especially with a high-waisted skirt and a layer on top, so all you can see is a tiny bit of skin. I think it can be so fun, but if you don't do it exactly right you end up on the wrong side of Lady & the Tramp. Visiting from the IT List!
