Skater Dress: one in which the top (bodice) is form fitted and then slightly flares out to be loose below the bustline or waistline.
Now that we've gotten the definition out-of-the-way and hopefully erased the frightening images of sequins applied to nude color mesh fabric that you probably conjured up in your head, let's get to the good stuff. Check out my three tips on how to wear a skater dress, just in time for Spring.
Outfit: Sheer bomber Jacket (similar)/Velvet Skater Dress (similar)/ studded ankle boots (similar)
1.) Start strong: Who doesn't love a good statement necklace? Adding a cute statement necklace like this one or this one looks great with this style of dress since it is more form fitted at the top.
2.) Layer up. As excited as we all are for Spring, the fact remains that it's still pretty cold in many areas right now. Stand up to mother nature by pairing your skater dress with sheer tights. Not only will you be happy for the extra warmth, but also have a bit of modesty in case a gust of wind blows up behind you while walking.
3.) Less is more. When it comes down to the shoes, pairing tall, thigh high boots isn't necessarily the best way to go with this style dress. Instead, opt for a pair of flats or low ankle boots that will compliment these shorter length dresses and finish off the overall look.
Comment below and let me know if you plan on wearing a skater style dress. How do you like to style these dresses?

I've always enjoyed the crushed velvet dress more than the nude with sequins... I'll have to tell you about the one with the white marabou trim one day-- that one was an actual figure skating dress.
ReplyDeleteYeah. The 90s. Some of the things I wore should just be forgotten.

I have a similar dress but mine has long sleeves :) Definitely agree with your tips. I usually wear mine with a statement necklace and I add a belt too to cinch in the waist :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the definition, I didn't even realize that I wear a lot of skater style dresses! Definitely not what I expected when I first thought of a skater dress, haha.
